Many outdated billing systems provide data packages only if purchased as individual plans. However, BillRun’s open-source technology offers advanced usage-sharing, enabling operators to reduce subscribers’ monthly bills, by sharing data or other pooled resources.

Many billing systems typically charge each subscriber according to their allotted amount of data, calling time to specific destinations, SMS or MMS. In these systems usage is linked to a monthly cycle, whereby the counters tally the consumed data each month, and reset to start counting from the first second of the new cycle until the end of the month. The system tracks when allotments have been exceeded, and calculates overage charges, which can be prohibitive. In addition, at the end of each month there is often unutilized data remaining.

Shared plans are advantageous for families and organizations

BillRun’s shared plans enable subscribers to share an account, so usage is counted by account rather than by subscriber, and the total data used balances out each month. Plans can be defined for an unlimited number of smartphone users; a set amount of calls to specific destinations; or unlimited calling time, data, text or video messages.

Shared usage is particularly advantageous for families with multiple smartphone users, in which one or two members typically use a lot of data, while others use little.

It is highly useful also for organizations, where hundreds or even thousands of employees share data usage on the same account. While this feature is attractive for telco companies, it can be implemented in a variety of industries, for example, in managing a company’s vehicle fleet, gasoline usage can be shared among the company’s drivers. Another possible application is for property management, by which a quota of electricity, water and other utilities is shared among several properties.

A rainbow of possibilities for reducing the monthly bill

BillRun’s usage-sharing saves significant costs each month - especially when applied to roaming abroad. Expensive overage charges are eliminated for each individual user, as other users can utilize remaining data. Overage charges apply only if the data used by any of the users on the plan exceeds the total amount allotted monthly to the shared account.

BillRun’s shared plans are available in varying sizes and rates, so companies can choose a package that meets their needs best. Furthermore, plans can be increased to ensure that the monthly data limit is not exceeded. Shared plans can be applied to both prepaid and postpaid subscribers, in real-time or non-real-time.
